Blended Learning (online portion), followed by hands-on skills session) HeartCode ACLS/BLS uses a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning, team dynamics training, megacode cases, and interactive activities to teach students ACLS///BLS knowledge and skills.
HeartCode ACLS/BLS is the AHA’s ACLS blended learning delivery method.
Blended learning is a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner, followed by a hands-on skills session.
Complete the online portion + hands-on skills session with an AHA Instructor, or with a Simulation Station or voice-assisted manikin (VAM)
The online portion of HeartCode ACLS/BLS can be completed in 6.5 to 7 hours.
Time to complete the hands-on ACLS/BLS skills session is approximately 5 hours using the full agenda, and approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes using the update course agenda.
ACLS/BLS Provider Course Completion Card, valid for two years
To enter the course, students must complete the ACLS/BLS Precourse Self-Assessment.
- Students are then presented with an enhanced learning experience through eSimulations, life-like animations, video scenarios, and knowledge checks.
- Cases may be repeated as many times as necessary to pass. Upon successful completion of all the patient cases, students must pass the multiple-choice exam with a minimum score of 84%.
- Web-based, self-paced eSimulation instructional program for ACLS/BLS cognitive training.
- Students apply knowledge to real-time decision-making and skills development
- Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each simulation to facilitate learning.
